Physicochemical Properties of Tile Adhesives

As an environmentally friendly, polymer-based composite material cementitious in nature, tile adhesives must meet the requirements of the national standard GB/T 25181-2019 and the industry standard JC/T 547-2017. The core physicochemical properties include bond strength, flexibility, workability, durability, and environmental friendliness. According to the standard JC/T 547-2017, bond strength is classified into two grades: C1 (standard type, with a tensile bond strength ≥ 0.5 MPa) and C2 (enhanced type, with a tensile bond strength ≥ 1.0 MPa). The enhanced type (C2) is particularly suitable for laying high-density, low-water-absorption tiles such as porcelain tiles. Flexibility is categorized into two levels: S1 (lateral deformation ≥ 2.5 mm) and S2 (lateral deformation ≥ 5.0 mm). Good flexibility enables the adhesive to accommodate minor deformations between the substrate and the tile, thereby reducing the risk of hollowing and detachment.

In terms of construction performance, the tile adhesive boasts excellent water retention, eliminating the need to pre-soak tiles during application and thereby boosting construction efficiency. Its anti-slippage property (T-class) prevents tiles from shifting or misaligning during installation, ensuring precise tiling. The extended setting time requirement (E-class)—allowing a setting time of over 30 minutes—provides more room for maneuvering and fine-tuning during the installation process.
Tile adhesives exhibit excellent water resistance, weather resistance, freeze-thaw resistance, and resistance to thermal aging, making them suitable for long-term immersion in water (such as bathrooms and swimming pools) or outdoor environments.
The tile adhesive has obtained multiple environmental certifications, including the China Environmental Labeling Product Certification (Ten-Ring Certification), the EU’s EC1Plus certification, and the French A+ certification. It features low TVOC (Total Volatile Organic Compounds) content—such as less than 60 μg/m³—and low formaldehyde emission levels.
